Sherlock/John Canon Recs > 15,000 Words
Title: A Silver Sixpence
Word Count: 16,400
Notes: fake/pretend relationship, marriage!fic, bottom!sherlock, sherlock big bang 2012
Summary: "John, we need to get married."
Sweet and funny fic that involves Sherlock and John getting married for ~case reasons~ and then of course feeligns develop along the way!
Title: Evidence of Human Life
Word Count: 16,906
Notes: bottom!john, biting, marking, light D/s
Summary: Sherlock's sanity deteriorates while he and John are stranded on a deserted island.
God, how do I even describe this? It is super well-written and so enthralling. It's...not dark exactly, but it definitely goes a bit into the psychological realities/consequences that would go with being stranded on an island, and it handles them so well! I love Sherlock's characterization in this and his relationship with John. The sex is hot and desperate and sweet, and the ending is wonderful.
Title: Let's Make a Bed Out in the Rain
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/Mary, Mary/OMC, past Sherlock/OMC
Rating: Hard R
Word Count: 17,664
Summary: John is devastated after his long-term girlfriend leaves him. Sherlock helps him through it.
Really wonderful fic that gave me all the achey feels in the best way!
Title: The Penultimate Problem (locked on AO3)
Word Count: 18,370
Notes: AU: Apocalypse, bottom!sherlock, sherlock kink meme
Summary: There is some kind of world-wide disaster. The best & brightest, along with a random selection of citizens, are being evacuated to various underground shelters in hopes of increasing survival ratings. Mycroft has managed to secure a place in the shelter for himself & Sherlock (& Mummy?), but not John. Sherlock is torn between the logical choice and his desire to stay with John. Mycroft has told Sherlock he has 24 hours to make his decision. A decision he never has the chance to make, because John makes it for him...by drugging his tea.
This goes in the cacon-Au section because even though it is an apocalypse AU, it takes place in the future after canon. Such an interesting world here and it feels so realistic! Loved their relationship and the characterizations.
Title: Just a Kiss
Word Count: 19,695
Notes: bottom!sherlock, public!sex
Summary: Five times John and Sherlock kissed because of a case and one time they kissed for real.
I love the 5 times trope and it is really fun and well done here. I loved seeing the different situations they had to kiss in, and the ending was wonderful.
♥ Title: There is a First Time For Everything
Pairing: Sherlock/John, past Sherlock/OMC, past John/OMC
Word Count: 21,165
Notes: dirty talk, bottom!sherlock, implied switching
Summary: A series of 'firsts' in Sherlock's life.
This was so beautifully written with Sherlock's firsts with John interspersed with other important firsts. Believable and sweet and super hot.
Title: Winter's Delights
Pairing: Sherlock/John, past Sherlock/Sebastian
Word Count: 21,173
Notes: bottom!sherlock, implied switching, holiday!fic
Summary: Sherlock takes John home for Christmas to meet the extended Holmes family.
Fun fic with a really wonderful and unique take on the Holmes family.
Title: Caring for John Series (5 Fics)
Pairing: Sherlock/John, brief mildly explicit mention of past John/OFC and John/OMC
Word Count: 21,979 total
Content/Warnings: D/s, dom!sherlock, sub!john, face-fucking, spanking, dirty talk, bondage, aftercare, semi-public!sex, sex toys, implied bottom!john
Summary: John has been searching all his life for someone to take care of him, but he doesn't find that person until he begins dating Sherlock.
Jesus this series is so crazy hot! Love the D/s dynamic here and Sherlock and John learning how to be together and be in this kind of relationship. Believable with some super sexy smut! :D
Word Count: 23,523
Notes: barebacking, bottom!john
Summary: It seems he’s just around these days out of sheer familiarity. Sherlock doesn’t need him for money, he doesn’t need him on cases (if he ever really did in the first place), he doesn’t listen when John tries to tell him to eat or sleep or take care of himself in any way whatsoever and he certainly doesn’t seem to need him for sentimentality. In fact, the only thing John seems to be good for these days is sex, and that is just not good enough.
OMG so much angsty feels in this one! I actually teared up...But it is so good and it all works out, so yay!
Title: Two Coffees One Black One with Sugar Please Series (4 Fics)
Rating: NC-17 overall
Word Count: 25,419
Content/Warnings: first time, bottom!sherlock
Summary: A somewhat pointless experiment on Sherlock's behalf leads to John having to re-evaluate pretty much his entire life.
Really wonderful and believable series. Funny and real and sweet and sexy in turns with brilliant characterizations and a lovely evolution of their relationship.
Title: Under Control Series (2 Fics)
Word Count: 26,820
Content/Warnings: light D/s, dub-con, hypnotism, bottom!john, sherlock kink meme
Summary: “You know John, I could hypnotize you if you really want." What followed was an arrangement that John never thought he would be lucky enough to find, and never insane enough to accept.
I love D/s dynamics and this was such a cool take on that with the hypnotism. This pairing was perfect for it and it was well done and hot.
♥ Title: 26 Pieces
Pairing: Sherlock/John, past Sherlock/Sebastian
Word Count: 28,236
Content/Warnings: bottom!john, talk of switching, torture
Summary: Mycroft gives Sherlock the apparently simple task of solving a puzzle box containing a stolen microchip. It isn't simple.
I really, really loved this fic, especially the relationship between Sherlock and John. it is lovely and believable and the evolution just felt so natural. the torture scenes get a bit graphic, so beware of that, but it all turns out okay, I promise! Mycroft was really well done as well, and, of course, the sex was beautiful and brilliant!.
Title: Hitting the Water at Sixty Miles an Hour
Word Count: 30,567
Content/Warnings: fake/pretend relationship
Summary: “You love your mother, Sherlock?”
John watched the muscles in Sherlock’s jaw jump. He nodded in one sharp jerk.
“Then we’re going to her party and making her happy.” John let out a resigned sigh. “As a ruddy couple, you bastard.”
John and Sherlock have to pretend to be in a relationship for Sherlock's mother. Lovely realization of feelings and Mycroft is a delight. :)
♥ Title: The Whore of Babylon Was a Perfectly Nice Girl
Word Count: 32,896
Content/Warnings: switching, bottom!john, bottom!sherlock
Summary: Sherlock walks into a room and takes all the space right out of it. He does the same inside John's head.
This was seriously so amazing. The characterizations of John and Sherlock are so spot on and the development of their relationship feels incredibly organic. And hot sex!
Title: Skeleton Key
Word Count: 36,092
Content/Warnings: bottom!john, barebacking, implied switching
Summary: Sherlock Holmes is anything but predictable; a fact that John has grown used to over the year they have known each other. However, nothing could prepare him for his reaction to Sherlock's mysterious decision to pierce his tongue.
This author is fantastic and I love the way she writes their relationship. Sherlock with a tongue piercing is everything I never knew I needed. Super hot and gorgeously written.
Title: Nothing to Make a Song About
Pairing: Sherlock/John, past John/Mary, past Sherlock/OMC
Word Count: 36,833
Content/Warnings: future!fic, first time
Summary: When Sherlock returned from his faked death, John could not forgive him for the deception and broke off their friendship. Ten years later, John returns to London in search of yet another new beginning. Sherlock, not surprisingly, is waiting.
This fic gave me so many angsty feels, but it was so, so good! Fantastic and real and wonderful.
Title: The Moment Pleasantly Frightful and Achieving the Together-Coloured Instant
Word Count: 17,238 and 20,776 (38,014 total)
Content/Warnings: first time, references to necrophilia (for a case), panic attacks, bottom!john, very brief bottom!sherlock
Summary: Sherlock doesn't kiss him all at once. He takes John apart, piece by piece, until there's nothing left of him. // John wonders if this is how it’s going to be: A life speaking in code, because they’re both too stupid to figure out how to say, “I love you.”
Really fantastic fics with fantastic portrayal of their relationship and the mechanics that would go into it. The first fic primarily deals with the aftermath of the Reichenbach fall, the strain it put on their relationship, and how thy could move past it and form a closer bond. The second fic takes place immediately afterwards, and has them dealing with this new relationship. A very believable approach to relationships and beautifully written.
Title: Bloody But Unbowed
Pairing: Sherlock/John, past John/Mary
Word Count: 43,211
Content/Warnings: mild torture, hurt/comfort, bottom!john, implied switching
Summary: "Ever since I returned to London, you have made it plain that my behaviour is intolerable. Clearly, you no longer find me praise-worthy in any capacity, so why are you still here?"
When a familiar argument threatens to destroy the last remnants of John and Sherlock's failing friendship, both men are left questioning their worth to one another. Before either of them has the chance to make amends, circumstance intervenes. John is left at the mercy of his abductors, and this time, he's not sure Sherlock will bother coming to his rescue.
This fic was fabulous. Well-written as always with brilliant characterizations, I am always so impressed with how beautifully this author manages to capture both Sherlock and John with her alternating POVs. This is definitely a bit angstier than some of her other fics, dealing not only with the post-Reichenbach emotional fallout, but also with some slightly graphic kidnapping/tortury scenes. But yay for happy endings, believable resolution, and a porny epilogue!
Title: Curious Case
Word Count: 44,653
Content/Warnings: first time, rimming, bottom!sherlock, sex toys, autofellatio
Summary: After burning his hands, Sherlock's unable to release his 'tension' in the usual manner. Who should he turn to? His totally, completely straight friend and flatmate who's totally not into Sherlock or his boy parts at all. Definitely.
Just a bit of fun that's PWP with a hint of plot, all the way through.
Super hot fic! I really enjoyed how much John got off on being "directed" by Sherlock and his reactions to being fingers for the first time were crazy sexy!
♥ Title: Damage Series (2 Fics)
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/Mary
Rating: Hard R
Word Count: 49,976
Content/Warnings: assisted suicide, mention of rape/non-con (not John or Sherlock)
Summary: No damage could ever be truly repaired. John would not be the same.
Or, what happened after the tarmac.
Really fabulous post-season 3 fic that starts off with Mary committing suicide and John and Sherlock dealing with the aftermath and finding their way together. Mary here is wonderfully complex and the realtionship between Sherlock and John is absolute perfection. The pacing is wonderful and the evolution feels so believable and organic. Great read with a wonderfully fluffy little epilogue ficlet.
Title: Fifty Good Reasons
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/Molly (ch. 6), Anthea/Mycroft (ch. 20)
Word Count: 53,940
Content/Warnings: AU: Boarding School, AU: University, switching, bottom!john, bottom!sherlock, fisting, face-fucking, public!sex, breathplay, break-up, barebacking, shared bed, bathroom!sex, underage, first time, elevator!sex, shower!sex, voyeurism, exhibitionism, dirty talk, rimming, light D/s, established relationship
Summary: Inspired by the 50 Reasons To Have Sex Fic Fest, this is the version where it's all Sherlock & John. Also it is a big mistake on my part. SEX VIGNETTES.
Each one of the 50 chapters in this fic represents a different "reason" to have sex. The fics are all unconnected, so keep in mind that the tags don't all apply to the same fic. I'm putting this one in the canon section, because only 1 or 2 of the 50 ficlets are AUs. Really fun concept and the ideas are wonderfully applied and executed. The writing is wonderful and the sex is all crazy hot! My favorites are chapters 9, 17, 24, 34, 40, 42. but they are honestly all great.
♥ Title: The Progress of Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/Mary
Word Count: 62,006
Content/Warnings: first person POV, infidelity, lightly implied bottom!john
Summary: Sherlock is head over heels for John, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him. First-person present-tense series of short scenes from Sherlock's point of view, borrowing heavily from Arthur Conan Doyle's stories.
OMG this fic! First person POV which isn't my favorite, but Sherlock's voice is amazing here, probably the best I've ever read. Goes AU after season 1 and the Mary here isn't the one from the show, but she is very interesting and fleshed out. I just adored the relationship between Sherlock and John and the writing was truly gorgeous. Lots of lovely pining feels and some beautifully sensual sex.
Word Count: 63,162
Content/Notes: post-reichenbach, bottom!sherlock
Summary: On the three year anniversary of Sherlock's death, John finds something unusual in his flat. He shouldn't be so thrilled to be finally going mad. But is he? Oh god, yes.
Great post fall fic that deals with the aftermath beautifully. Loved John and Sherlock both, and the whole thing was just wonderful.
Title: Electric Pink Hand Grenade
Word Count: 67,719
Content/Warnings: sick!fic, hurt/comfort
Summary: "If Sherlock's brain is a hard drive, then these attacks are an electro-magnetic pulse." Sherlock Holmes does not do anything by half, not even a migraine. It falls to John to witness one of the greatest minds he has ever known tear itself apart, and he must do his best to help Sherlock pick up the pieces.
The writing in this fic is seriously gorgeous. The way the effects of Sherlocks' illness are described is so creative and fantastic. Both John and Sherlock are wonderfully portrayed and their relationship is fantastic. The way the author progresses their relationship is realistic and perfectly paced.
Title: Letters Series (5 Fics)
Word Count: 71,463
Content/Notes: implied switching
Summary: While he's dead, Sherlock writes John letters.
Lovely post-Reichenbach series with a gorgeous amount of feels. Adored John and Sherlock's relationship here and how clearly, absolutely in love they were. Some sadder themes, but they were all handled really beautifully.
Title: Trying to Find The In-Between Series (10 Fics)
Word Count: 79,287 total
Content/Warnings: switching, bottom!john, bottom!sherlock, light D/s, light BDSM, gun!kink, whipping, bondage, gun play
Summary: DI Lestrade said Sherlock Holmes was a great man, and one day, if they were very lucky, he might be a good one. John Watson is many things, but lucky isn't one of them.
This is the story of how the impossible happens.
Wow this series. So, so good and super intense. John and Sherlock's relationship here is fantastically captured, both the good and the bad. The fallout from the Reichenbach fall is heart-wrenching but so believable, and the changes Sherlock makes and watching their relationship slowly mend is beautiful. The writing is gorgeous, the sex is insanely hot, and the ending is immensely satisfying.
Title: A Cure For Boredom
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/OMC, John/OFC, John/OFC/OFC, John/OMC/OFC (Please note that Sherlock is present for all of the interactions between John and the OCs)
Word Count: 81,665
Content/Warnings: switching, bottom!john, bottom!sherlock, light D/s, dom!sherlock, sub!john, threesome (m/m/f and f/m/f), light bondage, blindfolds, first time, sort of open relationship, rimming, dirty talk, double penetration (female), voyeurism, exhibitionism, public!sex
Summary: They'd never talked about sex in the year they'd known each other. Well, that wasn't quite correct: Sherlock had never said a word about sex; John had bemoaned his personal dearth of it on many occasions.
I must say that I'm normally not a big fan of threesome/polyamory/open relationship type fics, so I was really unsure bout this one going into it. But, like everybody had assured me, it was brilliant. This is quite *my* Sherlock and John, but I loved them nonetheless. I adored the relationship between Sherlock and John here, the love and trust, and fear and uncertainty of the other's feelings. The sex scenes were smoking hot, but even hotter was how in control of everything Sherlock was. Even though most of the fic is John getting off with other people, Sherlock is an undeniable presence throughout the fic. I thought the ending was great, and very fitting for this Sherlock and John.
♥ Title: To Light Another's Path
Word Count: 128,654
Content/Warnings: sick!fic, hurt/comfort, bottom!sherlock, mentions of past attempted suicide
Summary: Teaching John to observe seems to be a losing battle, but when Sherlock falls ill and submits himself to John's care, will he realise that there is more to life than the science of deduction? Meanwhile, there is a murder to solve, and John must try and convince Sherlock not to sacrifice his own health for the sake of the case. Eventual John/Sherlock Hurt/Comfort case fic. Post the Great Game
This author writes Johnlock so fantastically and she is great at hurt/comfort fics! i was a bit worried that it might be too similar to her fic Electric Pink Hand Grenade that has a somewhat comparable premise, but this fic definitely has it's own unique development and pacing. Both characters are really fantastically captured, especially their feelings towards one another, and the mystery plot is interesting, but not overpowering.
♥ Title: Midnight Blue Serenity
Word Count: 151,907
Content/Warnings: disguise!fic, mentions of rape, bottom!john, implied switching
Summary: “This was like nothing John had ever thought to associate with Sherlock: stubble, skin-tight jeans and three small silver rings gleaming at the crest of one ear. It was unbelievable, like stepping into an alternative universe, and John couldn't stop staring.”
When Sherlock infiltrates a club in order to track down a serial killer, his altered appearance is enough to make John question his assumption that Sherlock is beyond his reach. However, is he the only one who appreciates his flatmate's charms, or is Sherlock at risk of becoming the next victim? (Warning: reviews may contain fic spoilers)
This fic, like every single other fic I have read by this author, is mind-blowingly fantastic. The writing is so gorgeous and evocative, the characterizations are flawless, and the case is intriguing and fascinating. Sherlock is dead sexy, especially in his clubby get-up, and the sexual tension between him and John is palpable. Just a really fantastic fic! :)
Title: Nature and Nurture Series (6 Fics)
Pairing(s): Sherlock/John, background Lestrade/Mycroft
Word Count: 220,445
Content/Notes: kid!fic, parentlock, babylock, marriage!fic
Summary: The British Government accidentally clones Sherlock Holmes. Which brings a baby to 221B Baker Street.
Oh this is such a lovely series! Little Baby Oliver (aka Clone Sherlock) is too freaking cute, and I just adored the relationship between John and Sherlock. They figure things out relatively quickly, which means we gets lots and lots of awesome domestic, relationship goodness! Sherlock is maybe a smidgen fanon-y, but he was really wonderful in the fic, and seeing him with his new little family was fabulous.
Title: Keep the Car Running Series (6 Fics)
Pairing(s): Arthur/Eames, Sherlock/John, John/Mary, implied Mycroft/Lestrade
Word Count: 232,441 total
Content/Notes: AU: Cross-Over, Inception cross-over, implied bottom!arthur, holiday!fic
Summary: If Mycroft Holmes lived in a world where people could steal information from the subconsciouses of others, tell me he wouldn't be all over that when he had Moriarty in custody.
Super fascinating and well crafted verse that crosses over the Inception and Sherlock fandoms. The world blending is masterfully done, and it all feels very natural and believable. On top of that, we get a wonderfully interesting and creepy premise, and fabulous characterizations. Arthur and Eames are particularly spectacular here. The first fic focuses on Arthur/Eames with some John/Sherlock pre-slash action. The fourth fic focuses on Sherlock/John (with some established Arthur/Eames) and I really loved how the season three events were incorporated. I really recommend reading them in order, as there are definitely a lot of references back to the first fic. There's a super satisfying epilogue fic for Arthur/Eames, and I believe there is a Sherlock/John one coming as well, though the series reads beautifully as is.
